MTV employee data breached

The New York Times reports that a compromised internet connection on an employee computer led to the breach of the employment records of about 5,000 MTV employees. Although MTV’s understandably not providing much detail, an internal memo indicates that the accessed files included names, birth dates, Social Security numbers and compensation information.

MTV says they notified law enforcement authorities, encouraged affected employees to place a fraud alert on their credit files, and offered two free years of credit monitoring.

Valleywag’s take? MTV got punk’d.
